HIPAA Privacy and Security Officer
Leading Provider of Radiology
Benefits Management Services tackles information privacy and
security issues
Rancho Cordova, California – September 26,
2002 – Medical information
privacy and security is a huge challenge facing physicians,
insurance organizations and their supporting business associates.
National Imaging Associates, Incorporated (NIA), Hackensack,
NJ, is the data repository of more than 15 million imaging
patient encounters. The NIA Operations Center in Rancho Cordova,
CA is a URAC Accredited cutting-edge facility, offering a
web-based service connecting physicians with information pertaining
to the most effective use of radiology protocols. The federal
government has given the health care industry until April
2003 to comply with the complex regulation meant to protect
the privacy of an individual’s medical information.
NIA has hired Krista Rector, HIPAA Officer, to administer
the compliance activities in support of its client’s
HIPAA efforts.
Ms. Rector brings extensive medical services and information
technology management background to National Imaging Associates. In addition to
her in-depth knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) federal regulations governing privacy, security, and electronic
transactions, she brings over fifteen years of managerial experience. Prior to
joining NIA, she was Technical Services Director and HIPAA Security Officer at
Health Plan of the Redwoods, a Northern California HMO. In addition to her
management of the operations in an information technology department, her past
experience includes management in skilled nursing facility, home care and
hospice organizations, and with service organizations supporting both
physicians and dentists.
"I am extremely impressed with Ms. Rector’s
professionalism, broad knowledge of the health care business community, and her
extensive background on HIPAA security, privacy and transactions. National
Imaging Associates is committed to supporting our clients and their initiatives
to protect their members’ privacy and the security of their medical
information. By creating a position to focus on this vital need, NIA
demonstrates its support for the principles embodied in HIPAA." said Jamie
C. Burns, Esq., Senior VP, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer at NIA.
NIA was established in 1995 as a division of Corning Clinical
Laboratories (now Quest Diagnostics) and was spun out in 1996 as a private
company. NIA manages certain radiology care for over 10 million enrollees in 27
states, and was awarded NCQA Certification in Utilization Management in July
2002. It has165 employees.
