NIA unveils
RadMD at HIMSS Conference
Upper Saddle River, N.J., April 11 /PRNewswire/ --
National Imaging Associates (NIA) today introduced RadMD.com, an Internet-based
version of its proprietary diagnostic radiology management system designed to
better control radiology costs, while improving the clinical care of patients
and enhancing physician efficiency. RadMD.com will be on display at the Health
Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference through Thursday
April 13 in Dallas at booth #7406.
Radiology is currently a $75 billion sector of the healthcare
industry, representing seven to twelve percent of a payor's total medical
spending. NIA seeks to reduce these costs by ensuring that imaging technologies
are used appropriately by providers. Based on its track record of success with
its offline radiology benefits management platform, NIA is responding to demand
for an online version of its product offerings. RadMD.com creates a common
gateway linking providers, payors, and consumers in an efficient evaluation of
the care delivery process. In addition, RadMD.com will carry NIA's
accreditation by the American Healthcare Accreditation Commission (URAC). URAC
is the standard for best practice and processes to promote high quality care in
the managed care industry.
"NIA has a long and successful track record of providing
physicians with the most efficient methods for improving economics while
providing top quality patient care," said John Donahue, CEO of RadMD.com.
"Providing an online version of this proven suite of products is a natural
step in the evolution of the company."
Doctors who use RadMD.com can cut down on the time they spend
checking eligibility and referral networks online. The system also creates a
synchronicity between the referring physician and the radiologist by ensuring
that unnecessary tests are not prescribed. Working with NIA, its managed care
clients have reduced inappropriate use of services resulting in direct savings
opportunities for healthcare payers, thereby controlling future medical cost
inflation, and improving the overall quality of patient care through the
avoidance of false-positive examinations, unnecessary collateral care, and
harmful exposure to radiation. This year alone, NIA will consult on over 1
million radiology cases which represent over $500 million in medical spending.
In a recent journal article, Dr. R. Norton Hall, Medical
Director of HighMark Blue Cross Blue Shield wrote, "The current and near
term strategy of HighMark Blue Cross Blue Shield and National Imaging
Associates is to Web-enable all of our constituents, enrollees, referring
physicians, as well as rendering providers." In addition, Hall believes
that this method of information transfer is secure, and allows physicians to
get information faster and earlier in order to serve patient's needs better.(1)
Over the next 60 days, 160 physicians will begin using
RadMD.com as part of an early testing and refinement program. Upon the
program's successful completion, RadMD.com will become available to NIA's
current client base of over 130,000 physicians. A demonstration of the system
will be available at the Sybase booth (#7406) at the HIMSS conference. Sybase
is supporting RadMD.com with its enterprise portal technology.
